    .. what I've done today is update MS Office online ... and now the "M_C_E" error did not recur during some limited Excel work.

    .. in longer term I may get the M_C_E error again, but for now I'll leave 'sleeping-dogs-lie'.

    .. Note I did not perform Startup Repair.
