Education fund investment (for children)

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone could recommend or suggest options for starting an investment for a child's future.
Got time on my side here (at least 13+ years) so looking for something that can be a set and forget type investment, steady returns, tax effective and able to contribute extra to fairly easily.
If there are any other considerations, I would appreciate any comments.
