Even though I'm a longterm kinda guy I have quite specific things in mind when seeking an investment. I need to see something tangible happening in the near term. That is precisely why I invested in GMM/GXY. I could see the date of the mine opening in the future and loaded up.
I departed all spec and boring blue chip stocks to double down - and in hindsight the decision has proved correct and profitable for me. The spec stocks rose by a little. The blue chips by nothing. GXY/GMM by multiples.
I'm not happy to park money in a venture that is over the horizon by such a long way that there is no fixed dates or apparent work on building etc.
I've also wasted time in stocks inside the day-trader range before where its too cheap for others to manipulate.
I expect my capital to be working much harder for me than simply waiting for something/anything to happen and becoming the victim of stale holders and exhaustion. Projects suffer delays and, over time, even the most patient holders start to desert.
Hell, these things are apparent in producing stocks too - but there are new holders always coming with enthusiasm. Producing/profitable companies appear to be a rare thing on the ASX right now.
In this specific case I see that particular company you mention stagnating for a while to the point that you would be better riding a rising wave of production in a producing company - then return to the prospective one with your profits from elsewhere once real momentum and production is nearer term.
GXY/GMM are attractive because it is not just one asset. There is an aggressive calendar where we can expect to ride multiple waves over the next few years as each projects reach production, new milestones achieved, and each asset attains higher levels of capacity/profit.
Its this capacity for an exponential rise that is so appealing.
IMHO - its hard to find a better investment prospect at this point.
