The idea of Aldi taking business away from WOW and WES in 2016 is just like the idea of Franklins challenging the duopoly in the 1980s.
Are Australians that poor that have to shop at Aldi? I doubt the assertion behind the atrocious UBS piece, it is all in the realm of make-believe (Ben Gilbert's assumptions are highly questionable). Perhaps the duopoly of UBS and Credit Suisse in Switzerland is looking vulnerable to a revitalized European banking system with BARC, HSBC, Lloyds, RBS and Deutsche resurgent.

Do any Australians believe this Aldi stuff from UBS? I think the market and UBS' Ben Gilbert has misjudged (although initially correct about WOW, Ben Gilbert has been wrong about Aldi sales for the last six months and counting) and misjudges the poor and the motivations of the poor. They would have more self-respect than to shop at Aldi.
If you are that poor in Australia that you have to shop at Aldi, and they left under the CERA, they would be able to afford Countdown (WOW's brand in NZ) and New World, an NZ co-op (a bit like IGA used to be). This is because WES stays out of NZ as Coles never got good properties sufficient to sustain business much like the position of Aldi and MTS that they find themselves in. The NZ experience is why Aldi is now flat-lining by all reports.
If Australian investors is so gullible to believe these characters like Ben Gilbert who has been wrong on WOW for six months and counting, then they deserve the ALP/ Greens coalition Royal Commission into banking. That is a bigger risk to WOW than Aldi. Without facilities, all Australian businesses, of which WOW is one, will struggle.
Ben Gilbert has had one great trade, sell WOW, and it is starting to struggle. A drowning man will clutch at a serpent. The idea of Aldi smashing the duopoly is clutching at a serpent. Aldi is a mighty fine serpent.
