The thing for me is that I'm not sure that any of the "alternative" presidential options were more pro-mining.
And it seems that being "pro-mining" isn't a popular with the Phillipines people - so in a democracy it's hard for a candidate to take that position (bit like an Australian politician changing negative gearing or capital gains tax).
That said, a couple of them were clearly anti-mining, but maybe more importantly it's not like the existing president was pro-mining.
That said, any change to the status quo in a country that has had issues with corruption is going to be nerve racking.
