It is definitely worth having a go, it will speed up your learning for sure.
And testing does cause some difficulties to begin with, although when you get an eye for them, they will stand out pretty easily.
It is just practice.
Apart from the generic test (narrow spread downbar, closing mid to high, on low volume - next bar up for successful), they do come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and some will close as slight upbars, or a bit low on the bar, or even have high volume.
But the thing they will all have, is that the majority of their spread (or range) will be as a downbar, when compared to the previous close.
