One way this related to nickel is through cobalt which along with Li and graphite makes up the holy trinity of Li-ion battery raw materials.

Cobalt is rarely mined alone - usually in conjunction with Ni and Cu.

Interestingly, this guy predicts that it's cobalt that most are forgetting about and will become the critical mineral that may hamper Li-ion battery producers.
