any idea about real money

Have looked at this stock on and off again for the last year as somebody with development knowledge once recommended this stock, however I can't figure out the money part fair enough it gets grants and the like to fund research but how much is this stuff worth to anybody, I don't wear contacts perhaps someone could provide how much contacts costs so I can work out how much they could possibley sell this technology for, I must admit not knowing much could someone please tell me why I should buy as the price has been around the same for the past year with little ups and downs, I just can't see it going anywere in the future, although I am tempted to sink $1000 dollars in as some sort of gambling. Any replys much appreciated.
