Firstly SSG are not using wide band applications like Google are with Tencent, which will be a lot more complex. Wide band applications are necessary for internet "wifi anywhere" type products. It also seems like they are using full fledged satellites which are extremely expensive and difficult to scale.

SSG are specialising in narrow band applications. This means our technology will service light data transfer, text messaging and audio phone calls across the world at a much cheaper price than existing providers. It also means communication between satellites can be sustainable over longer distances than wide band satellites. From the website blog the CEO:

Q: So this is another "WiFi anywhere”?
A: No, definitely not. We specifically chose not to deal with wide-band applications which are much
more demanding than what we plan, and will take some years to mature.

There is also another Israeli company (SkiFi) using nano satellites for creating a "wifi anywhere" products. They have many hurdles to climb over to get their product to market.

I recommend people to thoroughly read the investor presentation and website before investing.
