WELLINGTON, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Consumer confidence in New Zealand registered its largest quarterly rise for two years in the fourth quarter, a survey showed on Monday.

The Westpac-McDermott Miller consumer confidence index rose to 110.7 from 106 in the previous quarter. A reading above 100 indicates more optimists than pessimists.

"What stands out is that households' appetite to spend has increased, and low interest rates are clearly playing a role," said Westpac Senior Economist Satish Ranchhod in a statement.
