Captain, another thing going on in the background with RRL is the potential sale of Newmont's 20% holding. It was reported in the AFR a few weeks ago that investment banks were putting proposals to Newmont to get a hold of the stake. I assume there is a good chance of this happening (at the right price) otherwise it wouldn't be reported.
The GDX would probably like to get a chunk given they would need to buy ~5% of Regis if they included it in the fund (estimating it based on NST holding).
Regis is relatively tightly held with Newmont having its 20% and management/directors having 13%.
Even if it got to US$750M market cap I think that probably has to be maintained for a quarter or two before they put them into the GDX so probably unlikely.
