If you're struggling because you want to day trade and cash is tied up, you could use a method similar to mine.
I have a largeish holding of MPJ, so when I want to day trade and don't have the cash, I'll just make the bet (using my commsec account) and if im up at the end of the day I cash in no harm done, and if i make a loss I can sell part of my MPJ holdings to cover it. Because I really do understand the frustration of losing opportunity cost, but there are definitely ways around it. I know you said you're with Etrade or one of the others, but with commsec you can buy a stock and don't have to pay until settlement 3 days later. (im not sure if this is standard practice or just commsec) So you can really dominate a day trade and only risk your holdings. Luckily for me all 6 of my day trades (lol) have either been profitable or breakeven, so I've only had to pay the cost of the trade and haven't had to reduce my MPJ holdings. Now that my order is full for MPJ my method from here on out will be days where I think MPJ goes green, I'm free to day trade, but days where it looks flat or going down I'll stay away from the market. Hope that helps, and i think it goes without saying this is all IMO and should absolutely not be taken as advice, just opinion.
