It could of happened a few years ago at a lot less cost but the planets weren't aligned and various people had other focuses. Also the NBN and what impact it was going to have was a bit of cloud of doubt back then.

I am actually pleased to see a bit of consolidation in the sector and even more so to see it come out of a domestic business, its a real confidence booster that is badly needed. What it may well do is impact Optus as they both relicense Optus mobile network.

I do wonder where MTU and Nextgen will head in the future and Vodaphone is not having a good time in Australia and its continued existence in its current form must be getting tested.
