Any system that is in place will have a certain efficiency IE loss between what is put in and taken out, the idea is to make this as low as possible.

Although your hydro solar/wind system would work well for smaller towns you still have the problems of a bigger system that is associated with the so called free solar and wind.

They are turning parts of China into polluted deserts (where the solar panels are made), the visual pollution of large scale wind and solar farms, the costs of operation, the health effects of the wind turbines, the maintenance costs of both solar and wind systems which is very high for the output the effect on nature and the wildlife.

In short they are not free, everything has a cost and IMHO the cost of the power is too high for large scale operation
