I realise that there is the initial input cost of construction and the ongoing costs of maintenance but these are passed on to the consumer are they not ?
It is all about the scale more than the initial input costs.
This cannot be done on a small scale is all.
They need to go bid with solar arrays and big with wind turbine farms, apart from that the lifetime costs would work out cheaper in the long run I believe.
They have just not been able to get the regulation, approvals and funding to go big as their are too many vested interests that wish to keep the status quo and lobby the governments the world over to keep it so. All the while lining their own pockets but trust me these people with the massive bank accounts from oil and such will be the first to step forward to fund these projects when oil runs out and that way they keep their control as they will then be the owners of these projects will be still able to lobby governments in order to be able to charge whatever the hell they want.
USA for example.
Try setting up an alternative energy project in Texas or Electric cars anywhere in America. These were put on the back burner due to the price of oil and government lobbyists.
They came into favour during the 70's oil crisis but once the price of oil went back down they were discarded and forgotten about again.
Now that oil prices are increasing they have come back into favour and the funding is starting to dribble in in order to perfect these technologies as those with the oil money know it will not last forever.
They still wish to maintain the governmental control they have though.
Wars are being fought looking for non-existent weapons of mass destruction in order to placate populations under the guise of freedom when really it is the oil fields that were the goal.
It hasn't worked out real well though and now you have all those isil nutjobs running around with the weapons that were supplied during these times and cutting off the heads of anyone who opposes them and anyone at all that they see as having any opposing view.
