With all due respect, given all your experience the short answer is you cannot point out exactly how CCL are wasting it on top executives or systems that don't work. Blind Freddy could tell you that you don't know specifics. All you have are broad generalisations about costs in general with some tangential reference to mining companies.
The truth is CCL (like many businesses) probably could reduce costs. In fact this is already underway. Good news. It was announced back in December last year. Not sure if you saw the announcement. Here is a link to an article about it.
What is important, rather than just a broad comment about bums of seats is how much value does this $100m cost cutting exercise add. Is $100m enough? Will it make any difference? Can you quantify the results of this over the next few years? Will it impinge their ability to make profit in the future?
It is really easy to bang on with broad generalisations that are formed on opinions and aren't backed up with any numbers. It just gets frustrating with people posting on this forum about the sky falling for CCL without a shred of analysis or back up with any data. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but without any sort of data behind it, that's all it is...your opinion.
In relation to the health aspect. It wasn't a lecture, merely responding to your comment that there is a epidemic of diabetes. This is just patently wrong. There is no epidemic in Australia and if there were and it was caused by sugary drinks, show the the correlation between consumption and diabetes. If there is correlation, show me causation. It is our job to question these things and demand actual proof. Your website reference said that is diabetes occurs in every country. Considering the vast differences in Western diets and emerging and third world diets, it seems much harder to believe that an evil can of coke is wreaking all this havoc around the world. You got as far as questioning the media which is more than most people get and I agree fully with your comments around this.
Yes there are issues with CCL. Yes sales are declining. Yes there is work to be done. It will take time to turn this thing round. Surely you know, as a business man, with all your experience, meaningful results rarely occur overnight. But given they are sitting atop one of the largest most powerful brands in the world and have been doing well for so long then we must give them the benefit of the doubt...and some time. Especially considering they are addressing every single one of the issues you and all these other people posting fatalistic predictions are bringing up.
Hope you had a great weekend and a productive week ahead.
