You'd need self-managed super fund (SMSF) to buy SOM and generally as a rule of thumb, you should have at least $200k as SMSF's are more expensive to run with accounting & audit fees. But can be worth it as earnings are taxed at 15% for a complying fund.

    My history on SOM:

I got in early as I saw a small write up in AFR when they did a quick summary on 5 stocks (probably in 2006/7). I bought a small parcel at $500 odd as a punt as I thought it was very cheap and had a lot of potential. I kept watching and seeing news on the big problem of sleep apnoea so I took a risk and bought more in the SPP which I think was limited to $5k. I wanted a fair stack at $0.014 which was obviously before they did the consolidation but I just missed out as I had to go up to $0.015 (which I'm kicking myself that I didn't) and it has gone up ever since. It hasn't however been smooth sailing. There were write-ups on large holders/management being involved in failed companies I think so I had doubts but it has paid off.

I think Mal has definitely done very well on this as he was buying big when it was sub $1.

I like your future SP's inception This is one of the few stocks that Bioshares have constantly as a Buy. Pretty much all other stocks they do research on is Speculative Buy/Hold.
