You shouldn't assume all farmers want it to stay Annabelle. Certainly this farmer wants their vesting rights (the Single Desk) stripped. You can still sell to the AWB next year if you want to sell to a company that will have little chance of getting rid of their (your) grain. I am embarrassed by the vocal ignorance I have heard on both radio and TV expressed by some farmers. Some effectively saying the 'markets are corrupt anyway'. That is true but it is not justification to be the most corrupt and in the process potentially forgo the ability to sell in the future.
Your Single Desk Annabelle now puts 'all' Australian farmers in a precarious situation. Where will our grain be sold? We are entering an era where ignorance costs money. Those who have blindly trusted the AWB when there have been some very vocal lobby groups such as PGA over here in Western Australia warning about the fallout from this debacle and the dangers of empowering a listed company with monopoly powers have cost themselves money. I was lucky to find out my Gran had some AWB just before the share price began to slide. I made her over $20,000 by selling. Unfortunately not all my cousins sold out. You can lead a horse to water ....
