the Chinese IMO, with Las Bambas going to China I would expect them to look at other opportnuties in the area. I wouldnt be surprised if the Chinese told SRK they werent interested last time (when Rothschild were searching for partners) until this deal was over the line. Was strategically important for China to secure that asset so they wouldnt have wanted another deal in Peru complicating the process
the timing of it all makes sense too
