Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson has criticised Qantas Airways’ push for government support as tensions between Virgin Australia Holdings Limited (ASX:VAH) and the national carrier linger.
In a blog post, Mr Branson said Virgin Australia had survived despite Qantas’ determination to ‘bleed it dry’ and couldn’t fathom why it would receive support now it has met financial troubles.
Mr Branson said Qantas would not be in the ‘financial mess’ it is currently claiming it is in, if it was 'better managed and offered a decent service'.
Qantas boss Alan Joyce has been a critic of international investment in Virgin.
Mr Joyce has asked the government stop Virgin’s latest capital raising.
Virgin Australia announced a net loss of $98.1 million in the 2013 financial year.
