Energy World International responds to alleged campaign of disinformation

    2013-10-11

On the back of a series of probing reports from CVM, energy world international has responded to what it calls a campaign of disinformation. The entity which has been given the opportunity to construct a 360 megawatt plant insists it has a track record of over 4 decades of developing power projects. However, there was no information on its financials or where it is incorporated. It’s statements like these, made by Michael West, an Australian investigative journalist on Hot 102’s morning programme Jamaica Speaks, which have irked Energy World International. Some of those comments were reproduced in one of Mr. West’s columns in the Sydney Morning Herald on Thursday. 24 hours later, a response from Energy World International; the entity selected various statements made in Mr. West’s article and sought to pick holes in them. West had said EWI has done very well financially from related party deals with directors over the years. The release said Elliott has not financially benefited from related party transactions as deals are with EWC not with directors. However, the essence of the article had really sought to question the claims made by EWC and had showed that little is known about EWI, which West called a mysterious company. EWI’s response: EWI and its management have a considerable 40+ year track record and have developed over 5,000mw capacity of power projects. The company however did not deny that it has no website, it only said “EWI is a private company and does not require a website.“ EWI has contact telephone numbers.“ It however did not provide these telephone numbers in the release. However, there has been much scrutiny into projects which have been announced by Energy World Corporation, but which have suffered repeated delays. The release from EWI on Friday insisted EWC projects are not related to EWI. It’s clearly an attempt to distance itself from the glare of media attention on an LNG hub which EWC said will be completed in the second half of 2014, it should have been completed in 2010. However, EWI said the EWC projects, like the LNG hub are mentioned with the caveat that these are subject to change and various risks. Meanwhile, EWI said it has been awarded a mega project in Sri Lanka, disputing claims from the journalist that this was an EWC project. And regarding suggestions from Michael West that EWC aggressively over promotes itself, EWI said EWC projects are described in its annual report which is subject to audit review. However, there were no information in the EWI release on where the company is incorporated, there were no statements on its financials and no indication on whether it was on track to pay the 7.4 million US dollar security deposit to the Office of Utilities Regulation.
