re: sabotage at newstan - roidz
Roidz, thanks for all the info - most informative. l agree with all your statements and you certainly have your finger on the big and small pictures. l view CEY mostly as an infrastructure type stock in the energy sector which will exhibit steady growth. l was a little perturbed when l saw how many CEY mines are underground, having been bitten by Gympie Gold [ do you have some stories to tell about that one ? ] but now l am concerned about greenie protests at Anvill hill - l thought being open cut, not near urban centres it would be good for all. What is their beef ? You mention the Powercoal assets as being "used up", meaning l take it that not much further synergisms to be had there? The Tahmoor mine l thought would come down in cost due to good management and increased production - dont you see big profits on the coking coal, since prices are likely to remain above US$100 ? You comment that China is producing 2,000 mil ton but they also predict that demand will rise to 2,900 Mt by 2009 which seems difficult to believe supply can ramp up that much when at the same time the authorities state they want to close down unsafe mines [ where 20,000 die each year ]. l was surprised that all the new nuclear reactors [ 2 per year ] will only supply about 5% of electricity demand, so it is still mostly coal. One final question : since PCI is being increasingly used as a substitute for coking coal in smelters, why is PCI falling in price and not coking ? Seems strange to me!
