What you say is true for the pre distribution investors, if you use cost accounting practises.

However, if you mark-to-market the holding, as Coastal would for their investors, as Anyone with SMSF would over a year end, there is always a chance that a manager will have to front up and explain why an asset is worth less at the end of this accounting period than than it was at the beginning.

There is always risk.
