This doesn't sound to bad actually.
I guess though the deal to obtain the option has nothing to do with West Wits (WWI) so probably the reason they didn't announce anything to the market. The option does not appear to affect WWI in any way but WWI now has a possible opportunity to acquire another 30% interest in the alluvial operation.
WWI still owns assets in South Africa which should be worth around $8 Million. If WWI sell the SA assets they could easily afford to buy out the option.
