TEXT SIZE TORONTO (miningweekly.com) ? Aim-listed Polo Resources has completed an NI 43-101 compliant technical report on its Union coal project, in Mongolia, which indicates that the prospect contains measured and indicated coal resources of 94,7-million tons.

There are also an additional 38,4-million tons classified in the inferred category.

The report, which was compiled by Australia-based Micromine, was based on the results from a 40-diamond borehole programme.

A total of 25 coal seams were identified at the union project.

The coal is subbituminous B grade based, on the ASTM standard, and is suitable for producing a good quality energy coal product for the Mongolian and Chinese power generation markets, Polo said on Tuesday.

The Union project consists of two mining licences and three exploration licences covering 14,6 km2.

The mine is situated 95 km south-east of the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (with 85 km of paved highway), and 25 km from a rail loading facility linked to the Trans-Siberian Railway, which provides access into the Chinese and Mongolian domestic markets.

The mine was in production prior to its acquisition by Polo in early 2008.
