The Mt Weld deposit occurs relatively close to the surface due to the nature of its formation upgrading through removal of gangue through chemical dissolution.

I havent looked at any of the holes in a while but I think they got encouranging results pretty close to the surface (<15m).

If they are comparing it with mt weld which has exceptionally high grade material then yes the rare earth minerals should be visually recognizable. Also carbonatite rocks are pretty peculiar looking beasts.
