Need a few law suits by patients who are inappropriately treated following a false positive with TST.
That's the way to get the establishment to take notice.
Eventually Manufacturers of the TST will find the production of the TST to be unprofitable when volumes decrease to certain levels. Profitability would be markedly affected if there were a few medico-legal / product liability claims. Product liability insurance would sky rocket reducing profitability.
Old products can disappear very quickly off the market under the right circumstances.
I am surprised I have not heard of any legal cases due to poorly managed latent TB cases. The medical profession is required to be familiar with best practices and manufactures of products are obligated to update their approved product information with respect to precautions and limitations of effectiveness when they become aware. Looking at the Approved Product Information for the TST - I bet it has not been revised for decades.
Personally I think any medico who bases his diagnosis and treatment on soley TST is leaving themselves wide open to legal action. The Manufactures would be also liable because from looking at their Product Information/labelling they are uniformally "failing to warn" prescribers of its limitations.
One case should do it!
I would be hunting the world for the one mismanaged case that could be taken to court and I would publisise it enthusiastcally
