What we have seen is yet another example of why companies place scrip, which can be done quickly and effectively, and no longer bother being fair to all shareholders via a rights issue.

Shareholders so often do not support the company, but these same shareholders hypocritically cry, "It's not fair," when a company raises funds by successfully placing scrip, instead of giving them the opportunity to buy scrip on a pro rata basis based on their shareholding in the company.
