I've had my say on what's wrong with AFL and where it's heading but feel impelled to maintain the rage after yesterday's games.
This time it's about the rules (or are the umpires wrong - if so how could they be so wrong?)
Dangerfield (crows) was touched yesterday as he bounced the ball (NOT retarded at all) - holding the ball! If the umpire is correct then this certainly is now becoming touch football! Has the rule changed? I thought the idea of a tackle was to retard someone. In the Port/Richmond waterfest (which showed why football park is a disgrace-not the water but the wind!)packs formed all day but there was no consistency from the umpires at all. Sometimes it was holding the ball, others a throw up. In fact several of the holding the ball decisions were in front of goal and in two cases the player pinged was not actually holding the ball he was just squashed under a pile of 15 players.
The game is going to the dogs - you can't play football at that speed unless you have a ball with a predictable bounce - players will get maimed. Call me soft but you are missing the point. Kids and their parents have so many other choices - and they are international!
In summary maintain the uniqueness of the game get rid of the draft shut down several vic teams create one in Tas and one in NT don't tamper with the rules protect the player going for the ball
In short, wind the clock back before the game becomes a hybrid of rugby, basketball and soccer.
