I spoke with Tony Treasure a few days ago, They are quietly confident about landing two orders, the Mexican and macmin orders, before the end of the year. The Mexican order has significant financial advantages for the customer, but EMM's newer technology is up against a tried and proven competitor. With Macmin, Tony thought Macmin had had a successful capital raising for funds to buy the process plant, so that order may be forth coming. It is up to Macmin. Both companies had demos units on site and raved over the results.

EMM technology is very good. Traditional Electro-winning is done in open cells conataing hot acids and the fumes are hazordous to the health of workers and the plant. EMM use a closed cell with a cylindrical anode and cathode. Workers are protected, so is the steel work. They have further refined their design to automatically scrape off the metals.

Their biggest problem has been getting their design out to customers. Being a small business, they have always lacked the funds to roam the earth demonstrating their product. Plus we have to keep in mind, like the recent Chile enquiry, EMM equipment is usually a side process, which sometimes gets no-further than an enquiry and costing. With the Chile enquiry, which received so much effort and a couple of plane trips, the client simply did not get the go ahead with that circuit.

On the bright side, they are a lean outfit now, having let go their manufactoring facilities and made a few staff redundant. Tony said this has cost them sub $20K.

De Nora are going down their own path having designed several 'standard' smaller EWEM cells, which they are ramping up to market next year. Plus they've shown the technology at several industrial fairs round the globe. Enquiries are picking up.

All in all, Tony said they have had a good year, substatanially beating last years orders, He wasn't sure about P & L. Too soon to know. But this is one sleeping dog which might surprise us all one day.
