I am assure you if Kerry put more money into payTV business, I will run away as fast as I can. I know payTV business inside out. It is a very lousy business, particularly in Australia simply because the legacy of overlapping network between Optus and Foxtel. (Thanks to Telestra, Foxtel has much more coverage)
In US their local monopoly was recently broken in by telco company after Pay TV company enjoyed a few years of taking business from telco through HFC network. Now teleco company fight back with fiber to home, mate, all billions of dollars investment, with no return, or too little. Or they hope they get their money back, new technology emerging. One bad cycle after the other.
I think Kerry should spend more money on emerging mining company. It will be far more profitable, or develop free to air digital channels.
It is a shame. All TV stations has been offered multichannels, they don't use it. What a waste! At least government can offer some education programs.
Well, I checked the SEVPC, After May 31, 2010, the margin is 4.5%. So there there is a good opportunity for price appreciation in 6 months. At least to par value. So the annualized total return is about 17%. Not bad money taking everything into consideration.
