Scanning a barcode through an hand-held reader is not novel. But perhaps the encryption that is used is. Also the software and its function might be. Just guessing.
ETC also has a subsidiary called Sapio who provide mobile security solutions to banking and gambling companies. So I would imagine this security is also part of the solution.
Comparing the cost per card doesn't quite look right either. There would be a whole range of factors to consider, of which we don't have any visibility.
