Not a friend of CBH or the AWB but as for where the industry is now, divided up into individual growers and small players all I can say is the motto of the world marketers is divide and conquer.

So to all you free marketers out there just get your nether regions well lubricated for the reaming you will surely get in the near future.

There is no such thing as a free market any where and no matter how big and smart you think you are you are small beer to the big boys.

In my time I have seen a lot of people come into this industry and spruke on about what should happen an what they are going to do and in a few short years they are gone usually with the excuse that they are persuing other goals, leaving the rest to sort out the mess left behind (and that includes within CBH and AWB at different times)
