Didn't ERG start this NSW ticketing system sometime around 02/03? So in 5 years they never managed to get a simple smart ticketing system to fly?
No wonder the NSW government dumped them.
Mind you I could never understand why they (ERG) where trying re-invent the wheel. There are enough existing solutions out there that could have been adapted to do the job. I can only compare their approach to this job with the ADF and their inability to get something simple right the first time, on budget and on time.
I really wonder if their biggest problem was if they were trying to develop everything - printers, scanners etc. If so then I can understand why they couldn't make it happen. A tech company should never try and do the actual hardeware, there are enough companies out there to do that, and enough existing hardeware that will do the job as well.
If they had outsourced this then that makes it even worse, as all they had to do was the software and integrate the whole thing.
All in all very sad as these guys should have made it big time.
