It is a pointless exercise looking for someone to blame.

There are CEO's and there are CEO's.

Erg had the world at its feet but it was and always has been rudderless.

I often wonder what a Bill Gates would have done with this company.

Anyway it is over and has been for some years.

No point in blaming a pen pusher in N.S.W.

As for the lesson well there is none. You follow a company such as this with good faith. No one could possibly forsee the downslide over the past 10 years given the extraordinary potential of smartcards.

I still find it hard to believe that what otherwise is a sound company in a dynamic industry could underperform to such an extent.

You can't learn anything from this debacle. Just recognise that no matter how good projections are the quality of leadership remains paramount.

I think we all overlooked that one.
