Lynas is only a ‘basket case’ because they are forced to deal with the Malaysians.
Wesfarmers, with capital coming out its wazoo, can simply build a plant here if the Malaysians continue to cause grief. I suspect that writing off the Malaysian plant to nil value will give them some significant tax advantages here, which would help defray the costs of building a new plant. Probably have a trick or two to make the new plant more efficient than the existing one as well.
