That's a fair comment from DBT9 and I think considering what the general community pays in tax breaks towards religious bodies, not to mention religious schools and the sweetheart deals to religions to buy votes, he has a right to ask, or pose such a question. The history of religion is not that good and it's been brutal on those who dared to question it. In this day and age in civilised countries a person has a right to question, especially when few if any of the claims of religion have come about and keep getting pushed into future events. And religion doesn't seem to be making this a better world for a long time now.
Religion has been promising so much for so long and what has it delivered. Pedophiles, wars, disunity, superstition, anti-science, dogma, men dressed in the most ridiculous hats and robes carrying silly sticks and wasting perfectly good candles.
Every time a prophecy fails to come to fruition the religious bodies then make up excuses on behalf of God to substantiate His no show. All they are doing is proving beyond a doubt that nobody, especially the clergy and preachers have a clue what's going on. Apart from the fact that a great many people have become obscenely rich by pretending that are in contact with God, can heal by faith alone and that they understand Scripture better than anybody else.
So I get your snide humour, but it is religion that makes the claims and they have to come up with at least an open-hearted, reasonable and logical response.
Now I believe in religion as a force for change, especially in its first few centuries, so I'm not having a go at you, just that religion is not a sacred cow and must answer its critics properly.
Religion is less important to humanity than clean drinking water and should never forget that.
