And that is a classic example.
It's someone else's fault.
How many times have you heard people say they don't want to visit their parents etc because all they will get is whinging, complaining, criticising ? While those parents might care, they have a funny way of showing it sometimes.
My personal view is that a child has a duty to their parents. As you point out, their parents made sacrifices etc for them and that should be respected. Regardless of how cranky the parent might be.
But it is a two way street. I know of plenty of people that simply can't handle the confrontation with their parents. I have witnessed it personally.
It takes two to tango, as they say.
That said, I also know people, whose parents I am friends with, that have been absolute pricks to their parents.
Humans are just very disappointing sometimes.
