Since March 1969 there have been 16 incidents and accidents which resulted in a total of nine deaths. The last three deaths have all involved the Hawk T1 jet - a type of aircraft first introduced to the team in 1979. There are now nine jets in the fleet, none of which was seen flying this morning from RAF Scampton.

How many Blue Angel pilots have died?
During its history, 27 Blue Angels pilots have been killed in air show or training accidents. Through the 2017 season there have been 261 pilots in the squadron's history, giving the job a roughly 10% fatality rate.
