Morning Harry,
hope all goes as well as it can. Personally, if possible I would just ignore Australians who show anything bar respect and graciousness on this issue -- after all - we sent you the problem.
It's also very clear that NZ is far more socially advanced than Australia - anyone who knows the country and the workplaces can tell in the first minutes that it's just a very different place to Australia (IMO)
IMO - my opinion and the opinion of other Aussies on this is irrelevant and should be ignored -
my personal opinion (which should be ignored as well) - is that this broadcast is just out of respect, nothing more. On a political level I see it as Ardern probably attempting to show a cohesion and harmony, a nation of differences like we all have, supporting a group, just showing that they are also one, a nation.
It's something that we do the opposite off well in Australia, we take the first opportunity to highlight difference and play it up, the last thing we celebrate is coherence and unity - particularly in social media and particularly on some specific social media sites.
Take no notice of us - you have always been far better at this respect and graciousness stuff than we have IMO
