I don't think one can make that assumption that your experience is "Corporate Australia". I work in a corporate environment (I'd be an ant at this stage of my career). All my bosses are very good at what they do. Not everyone works the same, there are people who get paid way too much for what they do but they don't have any career progression. This means that management are hard working, tend to be the first ones in the office and the last ones to leave, and they reward the hard workers with higher bonuses, salaries and more importantly career progression.
I'm sure my work place isn't perfect by any means but it's a far cry from the "Corporate Australia" picture that is painted on this thread (although I do understand it's somewhat tongue in cheek).
