Ahh, that was all about jobs, not cars. Decent cars still cost heaps because you had to import them through monopolistic franchisees.
Why should taxpayers subsidise EVs? If the government is serious about cutting emissions, then just ban sales of ICE, rather than robbing Peter and Paul to pay Peter.
Or you could adopt the Norwegian model.
No, it’s just occurred to me. There’s no way our governments of any colour, Greens included, will subsidise EVs for years if not decades yet, as it would push power prices through the roof. A far too political hot potato.
