Stockcount - that's an equity raise. I said they won't pay to finance the technology. I,e, they aren't paying a loan to them now against future usage or exclusivity, that sort of deal is very rare.
If a partner wants to buy a chunk of stock in this company as a private equity raise, preferably at a premium, then I am all for it.
I also think that an equity stake can include first mover privileges, the benefit to the partner in this case is that they lower their risk profile of development while still getting early access. (leading edge vs bleeding edge).
If they are investing now or capping the price, I think the board would have access to that and would hopefully step up negotiations to weed out that sort of behavior. That's predatory rather than partnership.
