Not even Fuzzy is so stupid as to think Lynas residue is harmful. Certainly Yeo and Dr. M are not. However, they can convince voters that only their efforts are protecting the people from harmful waste powerful countries are dumping in their backyard. This is political power. The fact rare earths are so important to the global economy is the driving force in this political move. IMO, Dr. M & company see this as a very powerful political tool on the global stage. This is leverage they will use to advance their own political ideologies outside of the borders of Malaysia. These political ideologies are not rational nor are they business based. IMO, Dr. M & company intend to extract political concessions from Japan and Australia. In this game of political brinkmanship, they will push their agenda to a point just short of forcing Lynas to move.
IMO, they just can't be motivated by a belief The LAMP poses any threat to Malaysia or her people, this leaves politics and possibly global politics.
