I was reading a paper on arbitration last night and the author stated that the legal people will study the arbiters and past cases as each has a way of ruling and their interpretation of the law. They will present their case with that in mind.
As has been said before literal vs purposive interpretation could be important. But then again my understanding of the law is when walking home from the pub late at night always pee behind a very big bush.
