A bot will work if you can find the right filter but its hard to come up with the filter and code it.
So, what i might do is simply create a bot/s to trade trends well and keep it in the magic bag of tricks until i see a trend setting up and just chuck it on.
Now for me, a trend is simply a move that goes from point to point like to bring up one of RickM's terms, like a monkey swinging from branch to branch. So, in practice, that would be me waiting for a chart pattern say a cup and handle and running the bot as/when it breaks the line.
This is all to try and focus on the right trading conditions rather than leaving a bot running all the time through say choppy conditions
