Western Digital is a CORE partner with IMEC, so no reason why WD wouldn't aquire 4DS before the planned iterations are completed.
WD would simply transition the 4DS collaboration with IMEC under its existing 8 year old partnership.
JD did not randomly ammend the proportional takeover because he felt like doing so.
