they will drill as deep as they can stopping only if the hole becomes to difficult to drill. If its easy drilling go for the basement i recon. 
They will sample all the way down taking out core every 3 meters or less. They want the core to test permeability of the strata. they will sample every change they see as well.  I'm sure they will do some sort of resistance tests on site as they are drilling as well.  I'm pretty sure they will want to case the hole as they go so as they can make sure the drill string wont get stuck. But all this depends on ground conditions and drillers knowledge and experience. 

I wonder if they will send samples away to be analyzed every day or send them away all at once is my only question. So by the time they get to depth they may have results back for the surface samples as i think sample tests take 2 to 4 weeks, don't know how long the tests actually take if any one knows the test for Li and time frames from sample drop of to test completion, hopefully they do that in country as well.
