There is also a massive chunk of the people coming to this country every year that can't even get a job, let alone buy a house and even consider an electric car. They buy and drive around the worn out petrol rejects and always will.
By the time a s/h electric car becomes affordable to the masses, the batteries will need to be replaced at a cost probably more than the car, and besides, they more than likely would be unable to pay the electricity bill to keep recharging it. Then there will be the disposal fee to get rid of the old batteries which has not even been factored in yet.
The Governments also have not figured out how they are going to replace the valuable fuel excise they will lose on EV's, so there will have to be a pay by the kilometres charging system in play.
+The vehicles more than likely will have to automatically upload the mileage to Big brother regularly so you can be charged. If you don't pay they will shut down your car so it cannot be driven...just as manufacturers can alter a vehicles engine tune while it is being driven, there are calls now for manufacturers to include software that will enable Law enforcement agencies to shut down a car at will to stop car thefts and chases.
An EV is not a consideration or a blip on the horizon for the many millions living on the poverty line in Asia or other third world countries that also need transport. Neither the money or the infrastructure is or will be there to support such a massive change.
Stand on a street corner in Saigon for example and try to cross the road between the menagerie of motor cycles, scooters and cars...they will not be electric for many lifetimes to come.
EV's will be around, but it will not be for many decades that they might become a serious consideration.
What will happen to motor sport? If you have ever watched the electric F1 series that is the epitome of boredom. the loudest noise heard is the screech of skidding tyres, otherwise just a hissing sound as the cars race each other.
The Australian touring car series shelved moving to turbo V6's as they sound like crap and they would lose audience overnight...they need the sounds of wailing V8's to make the racing interesting and saleable.
(for those that hate motor racing and believe it is a waste of fuel, did you know that holding the Melbourne Cup each year burns more fuel than a motor racing meeting such as Bathurst or the F1 event in Melbourne. Planes, boats, trucks and cars ferrying punters and equipment to and from the Cup event along with hundreds of support vehicles do their bit)
If the world were to move to EV's, what would happen to the hundreds of thousands of jobs in the Auto industry from parts to repairs? All but gone adding to the many millions of other employees displaced. Society cannot afford to keep trashing jobs and expect the few left with jobs to pay the way.
Did you know if we were to some how do away with motor accidents, it would severely impact on the jobs available in the health sector? Unfortunately motor trauma victims keep many people in jobs too, just as bent motor vehicles keep many people in jobs from repair shops to parts suppliers.
I for one don't even think about a glorified golf cart to get around in...I'll stick to my gas powered car and help keep people in jobs thanks...

They can't afford to pay for the electricity to charge their battery? You're knowledge on such matters is clearly badly lacking.
An EV can charge in less than an hour, lets be kind and say that equates to 3kw of power to charge, which then equates to less than a dollar! Less than a litre of petrol which will only get you about 10klm up the road! The EV then travels 500klm on it's 80 cent recharge.
