the term "free stock" infers that the company or stock exchange is sitting on shares waiting for someone to come along and buy them with those funds going to the company, it's simply not how it works. Any holder can list any volume of shares held at any price they wish, it's then up to a buyer to place an order to buy those shares. What I'm seeing this past few weeks is very small parcels of shares being traded, I interperet this to mean that only small holders are selling shares, maybe to pay down some of that Xmas season spending. When demand exceeds supply, prices will rise and at some point in the rising market, more holders are likely to exit, cash out and perhaps then wait for the market to settle again before they repurchase.
